Things That Happen When L Goes Away

L is away for the next two weeks fulfilling his work duties, I keep telling myself that since we'll be moving in the new year and it's going to be a regular occurrence again (that's different issue, sorry post, for another day) I'd better get used to it.

So as not to drown in my own misery I'd thought I'd keep this post lighthearted and let you in on what really happens whilst he's away...

1. I stay up passed my bedtime every night, obviously I tell him I am NOT doing this because it's a hell of a lot easier than explaining rubbish tv is fascinating.

2. I will eat an entire bag of sharing popcorn to myself in one sitting. At 111 calories per serving that's nearly 2,400 calories in a 'snack'. Have just literally put the bag out of reach!

3. I will get into my pjs as soon as I get home from work, when L is here he at least makes me wait until 18:00. Don't know why he bothers, it's not like we are expecting guests.

4. I will watch every z list celebrity film on the Hallmark channel I can find, if not that then Snapped or Fatal Vows. L seriously mocks me for this like Westerns and War films are sssoooo much more entertaining.

5. I will graze listlessly on just about everything and anything without really eating a whole proper meal, apparently when he goes away so does my ability to make a decision on what I fancy to eat. As a whole meal.

6. I will take 2 days to clean the house instead of the few hours it usually takes. I have to space these things out, you know, to stave off the boredom.

7. I will suddenly forget to pick up after myself and have a habit of 'shedding' clothes. This sounds worse than it actually is, by the I mean I will leave my dirty clothes in a heap on the floor either in the bedroom or bathroom and just not bring them down stairs straight away. It's that staving off boredom thing again. I promise. I will swear when L calls that I haven't turned into hurricane Catrina (his nickname, one of many for me) and am keeping the place neat and tidy.

8. I will snack on cheese and think this is an entirely appropriate snack as it's got calcium in it. I will pretend I haven't when he returns.

9. I will drag out an old teddy he got me about twelve years ago and sleep with it. I know, I know, I'm a 38 year old woman who sleeps with a bear.

10. I will not tell him that I miss him so he doesn't feel bad about leaving me.

Ten years dating (yes I know I take my time) plus eight years of marriage and my routine of bad habits when he goes way hasn't changed. I'm sure they're why he fell in love with me.

Wednesday Wonderings

It's been a while (more like forever) since I last posted one of these insightful glimpses into the randomness that is my thought process and imagination, and if I had my wits about me I'd offer an excuse...I did say "if".

1. How a child can swear blind that they've no idea how to use the clues to solve the problem of finding the missing number for the better part of an hour, only to complete it in minutes when I take away part of his lunch break? Funny old thing that.

2. Why has Spring forgotten to come this year? We had hail stones that were almost the size of 5 pence pieces at the weekend. Brilliant!

3. Where I got the misguided notion from that supply teaching would mean less stress and a better quality of life, you know that achieving that whole working to live and not living to work thing....yeah, not happening.

4. Why do children fart so much? Seriously, there aren't enough windows in my classroom to help with that one.

5. If life is short why do staff meetings feel like an eternity?

6. Just how on a Monday am I to mark 68 books by 11:30 when I am teaching all morning and on playground duty? I've got nothing in solution to that.

7. Who do I need to thank for the 1% salary increase and the 1.4% increase to National Insurance rendering me ACTUALLY WORSE OFF!? Cheers modern equivalent to the Sheriff of Nottingham.

8. Why do they keep giving the job of Education minister to oxygen thieving paper shuffling pushing village idiots? £££ that will be why.

9. Why after having itchy feet to move for so long am I now so reluctant to? Because you're difficult and contrary.

10. Why can't I drag my exhausted butt out of bed for work and wake startled with leopard print spots in front of my eyes when the alarm goes off Monday to Thursday, yet the weekend comes around and I'm up with birds in search of coffee and watching them grub about in the garden? Because you're weird.

11. Will I ever find the words to describe just how challenging, amazing, exhausting, thrilling and maddeningly ironic teaching children is? Probably not.

5 Things that tell me I'm DEFINITELY a teacher...

Somewhere along this year and my journey to becoming a qualified teacher I morphed into one all of my own accord. Sure I don't have that piece of paper (yet, 7 weeks to go whoop whoop!) that says I am but I know I'm a teacher.

1. I live out of my boot (trunk to my friends across the pond - hi Dawn! I'm waving fanatically) and it's full of essential teacher stuff. And not so essential stuff but random items that caught my imagination and made me excited.

2. Every holiday period I succumb to illness.

3. I use my teacher voice unwittingly all the time.

4. I red pen everything I see - L's CR reports, notice boards, T Shirts with writing on, menus, people's grammar...

5. Not that this is a factor for me but when it comes to choosing baby names you veto just about every one suggested to you because you've taught a child by that name.

Have a fun Friday!

Things That Amuse Me

Owing to the fact it has been months since I last posted you'd be forgiven for thinking I'd lost my voice, that however couldn't be further from the truth...my brain has been so chatty it's been deafening in my head.

I've got a number of 'issues' rolling around the inner sanctum of my mind but...they're for another day and another cup of coffee.

Today I want to take the time to focus on things that make me chuckle, or squeal like a guinea pig depending on who I am with.

1. Animal videos or pictures of our pets doing silly things, especially when they are wearing what I believe to be a sheepish look when caught.

2. People's ability to take statuses or picture posts out of context and be offended. Not everything is designed to offend and if whatever said/posted can be taken in two ways...I or a friend meant the one that didn't offend.

3. People in the gym feeling that if they arrived after you they can't leave before you.

4. Pictures on Pinterest of people's 'nailed it' cakes and only because my efforts at baking are never pretty. Taste good but never pretty and never ever look like the picture.

5. My attempts to be green fingered - just check my green waste bin for my latest efforts.

6. Any of the Despicable Me films, in particular Gru and Agnes's relationship.

7. Magpies. Now I know that seems odd considering they're largely viewed as birds of ill omen and generally as not very nice but just watch them next time....that bouncy sideways thing they do, the way they nestle together on cold days, the fact they are bolshy bullies...probably shouldn't find that last ins entertaining but I do.

8. My sewing attempts and the disparity between the expectation in my mind and reality of what I've produced.

9. My clumsiness. I try so hard to be coordinated and graceful but the fact remains I'm neither of these things even on a good day.

10. Taking part in a tough gym circuit, am always grinning from ear to ear.

The Cold, The Boxes and Me

I'm 11 boxes packed, dinner cooked and the house cleaned for L's return in about 15 minutes.

11 boxes with about 50 to go...*sigh*. How does one small 5ft woman accumulate so much stuff. Admittedly, most of my 'stuff' consists of books and academic studies not clothes or other female related paraphernalia. (Let's not mention my boots and shoes collection or jewellery). Yeah, let's not do that.

The boxes I have packed I've stashed in our spare room or in a cupboard but can I just say...IT TOOK HOURS TO WRAP AND PACK AND TAPE! HOURS!

I can safely say I ran out of excitement today.

I've had achy eyes, a dripping right nostril, a sore right ear, an achy head and hot flushes...ugh! Please don't let that be a cold coming on...I really don't have time for a cold!

Metamorphosis

This evening I watched UFC165 Jones v Gustaffson. Wow. A truly amazing fight, although a little disappointed there wasn't as much grappling and wrestling as I'd have liked, it was an amazing fight. I think Gustaffson was robbed and deserved to win...but I imagine there are a few of us arm chair referees who hold the same opinion.

Jones seemed to favour his legs and kicking, indeed he seemed to be using his legs and feet to do his utmost to avoid Gustaffson's anvil-like fists. That said, there were a few comical moments in which Gustaffson used his height and long legged advantage to 'run' away from Jones.

I have no idea what it is about UFC that brings out my more, shall we say, passionate side but there is no denying that it does. If I had been worried about turning into my grandmother whilst watching UFC - The Ultimate Fighter - this evening my worst fears were realised: I was on the edge of my seat, eyes glued to the screen, shouting various things at the tv. A full metamorphosis took place this evening and it happened quite naturally without me noticing it at all, I was punching a pillow and shouting 'Hit him! Hit him!'

Nanna, this little caterpillar has morphed into a fully fledged impassioned UFC butterfly...I can feel you laughing and smiling at me. Merde I hope you're proud.

Jack the Legend

Jack is our 5 year old next door neighbour. He lives with his mummy, his daddy and his little sister, Princess Sophie (the princess part has been added by me).

Jack is an utter legend for coming out with the most amazing bits of information, jokes and comically timed questions. Today was no exception....

L was working on the car, changing our disc brakes. Jack and Princess Sophie were out playing on their scooters, zoom vooming up and down the little stretch of pavement between their house and the lamp post. Naturally curious and always willing to lend a hand, Princess Sophie wants to help. L, is great, he lets her pass him tools and have a play. Inevitably Jack wants some of the action, so he squats down and L lets him have a go.

Mum wanders over and Jack looks up her to utter the immortal request, "mummy can we have L as our daddy and not Andrew?"

Needless to say a period of stunned silence ensues before L looks up at Gemma, Mummy pulls a face and says "Nah you wouldn't want that, I'd never get round to taking you to the park". Mummy eventually says "Let's not tell daddy that"

Yup. Jack is an utter legend!

Wednesday Wondering

It has been a VERY LONG time since I last posted one of these posts and I would have sooner....but I've hardly been able to string a coherent sentence together, let alone had something intelligent or witty to say, for months.

So, without further preamble here is a taster of my more lucid mental meanderings...

Why does it always seem to rain when I have bed sheets to dry?

Why do I insist on watching crime documentaries like the one about the Night Stalker when I'm alone and then wonder why I have nightmares?

Why do I find it impossible to follow a recipe and stick to it even when I'm making it for the first time?

How many times can I watch Baby Boom before I grow bored?

Why have the neighbourhood cats decided to make my garden their own personal litter tray?

Is there anything that beats the sensation clean fresh sheets on skin?

Was I really excited to take my new Swifer mop for a test drive?...(yes, but please don't tell anyone!)

How am I going to be able to resist 'testing' the peanut butter and banana loaf I made for L before he gets come tomorrow?

How can L NOT like winter? I mean who wouldn't like mulled wine, presents, snuggling on the sofa, hearty homemade soups, making snowmen, snow days, food induced comas, everything cinnamon, all spice, nutmeg and ginger??? Mmmmm

Why do women cry at weddings?

When are the MOD going to get their act together sufficient enough to sort out the paperwork (I.e. actually have some) so L and I can start the moving process? It's not like he starts the job on the 14th October and is going away in between then....oh that's right he is!

Has my exercise fairy gone on holiday because I have ZERO motivation to work up a sweat? Unless it's soaking in the bath. With bubbles. And my kindle.

How long am I going to sit on the fence about the pixie crop haircut I got over two months ago and have had trimmed since?

Why can I NOT STOP eating? My clothes are getting tight:(

It's Not the Years Which Have Done You in...it's the Weekends!

There comes a moment (or 5) in a woman's life when she realises she's old. Well, maybe not old but she has this dawning realisation that the blush and exuberance of youth is a little behind her, unlike her behind which is perhaps not so little. Like mine.

So, here are 10 things that tell me I am on the road to my dotage

1. Liking men with beards and a hairy chest because they look like men. Not in the breathy blushing 'I only date older boys' teenage I like men with beards way. No, in the there's something sexy, reassuring, calming and enticing about a man with a beard and a hairy chest.

2. Needing caffeine to wake me up. Long gone are the days where I can open my eyes, be wide awake and compos mentis. No, that doesn't happen anymore until I'm either finished my first cup or have been awake for at least half an hour, whichever comes first. And I never seem to get enough sleep and no longer think 'I can sleep when I'm dead' or 'I just need to power on through the day'...nope. Sleep + caffeine = essential.

3. Not being able to lose weight by just skipping lunch. Now I have to skip a few lunches, and dinners for that matter, to lose weight.

4. Hangovers that last days. I used to go out drinking and I'm ashamed to say drink for 10 hours and the hangover would last a few hours to a day, maximum! Not so much these days. Once had hangover after only 4 beers and that lasted 2 days. 2 days?! Beyond lame.

5. Needing my own bed. I seem to have developed this inability to get a good night sleep unless I'm in my own bed. That's normal. For an old person. Within the first few minutes of being in it I can list all the ways that it's different - in a bad way - from my bed. Who compares beds other than old people?

6. Listening to girls talk about boys and the drama surrounding them. I don't miss the 'will he, won't he phone' nor the 'if he likes me why is he flirting with her' conversations. Okay, maybe I miss the butterflies in my stomach sensation but then again seeing L after he's been away does that to me.

7. Today's fashion. I do not have the body for it whether I like it and want to wear it or not. I have boobs, no waist as such (it's a thick one), hips and an ass that just isn't conducive to wearing today's fashion and not looking like mutton dressed as lamb. Mutton as lamb is definitely an old person thing!

8. Having a dozen things, worries, on my mind at any given second like blood pressure and my cortisol levels - old person concerns. I didn't even know what these were when I was younger and I'm pretty sure even if I had...I wouldn't have cared.

9. My idea of a good night out features a few - ahem 4 tops because as we've already established that's sufficient to give me a raging hangover - drinks in the kind of establishment where you can 'have a good conversation and be heard'. Failing that pizza, some kind of chocolate and a Disney cartoon. Not dancing the night away in some dark dingy club with thumping music, scantily clad girls, boys in crown jewels squeezing tight jeans, sickly sweet drinks and a carpet you stick to. See? Old!

10. I sound like mother.

Argh! That one in itself is more proof than all of the above that I am morphing into someone I would, not so long ago, have written off as old, out of touch, judgemental and boring. So not fair!

Wednesday Wonderings

I've not actually been pondering much lately. At least nothing remotely entertaining, my mind has been preoccupied with 'adult' things *how dull*

Why do men have to ask questions when you're in the middle of watching something?

And to add to the above when you pause it to explain or answer one of their many questions, why do they then insist you don't need to BUT still ask questions?

Why is the waiting game the hardest one to play and why aren't there any winners?

Why does toast always land butter side down?

Why is my hair currently doing its own thing and making me look bedraggled?

Did L and his friend Easy really add milk to their fruit teas and wonder why it tasted so disgusting? hahahaha so wish I could have been a fly on the wall when they did this! Hahaha

Why does L laugh at me so much?

Why have I STILL not started my Masters level assignment? Ugh Natasha. You never learn.

Was cutting my own fringe really a good idea? Erm no, like you had to ask.

Why can I feel myself retreating into myself again? *sigh*

Why, when you have to make a choice are these choices always stacked up against each other to put you between the proverbial rock and a hard place?

Who has stolen my battered sheep slippers? They are about the only thing that I still hold on to out of sentimental attachment. It's a weird story.

Why do companies who are cold calling you withhold their numbers? Common sense tells you if you see a private number on your mobile it's a cold call and chances are you're not going to answer.

Wednesday Wonderings

It's been a while since I entertained you with my random yet plausible musings, life has conspired against me to chain my thoughts to less whimsical meanderings.

Without further ado and better late than never, enjoy...

Are doctors only now realising that the effects of being bullied in childhood can and do reach into adulthood?...did they need to conduct an empirical study for that?!

Are you sure there isn't a manual for women...my birds of a feather 'friends' confuse the hell out of me and increasingly of late make me ashamed to be a woman.

When is spring going to get here?

Isn't it more a case of great expectations being great assumptions? Admittedly it doesn't sound as impressive but thinking about it the latter really is more applicable. From my point of view.

Is is possible to combust with the pressure of other people's expect...assumptions?

If you're the type of person who has this 'to do' list in life is there a chance of knowing peace and the pace slowing?

Why are some emotions thought of and perceived as negative when emotions are just emotions? I only ask because of something in a university lecture on Child Development.

Will L get promoted?

Where will we moving to?

When will we be moving?

Will I have to sofa surf for the last month of this course?

Why is hindsight so bittersweet?

Will L and I get to immigrate to the States?

Why can I ignore an unopened bag of sweets or anything which is bad for me but an opened one?...Forget it, those calories are mine!

Why is it when you are giving something all that you've got and some, does someone come along and act like they're disappointed in your effort and capable of so much more?

How do you stop putting people on pedestals and thus setting yourself up for disappointment?

Why am not surprised the chocolate Easter bunny my sister got me didn't last 24 hours in my company?

What's happened to story in my head to make it so flat/

Thursday, 6 December 2012

Wednesday Wonderings

Why do we add the 'extra' time to accommodate the 5 hours, 48 minutes and 46 seconds that are actually apart of our supposed 365 day year to February? Why not another month?

Why does February only have 28 days?

Why does the Earth travel in an anti-clockwise direction?

Why can't Reading buses run on time?

How have I left myself get this far behind on my filing?

Why is doubt so insidious?

Did I really wake up at 02:49 due to a whacking migraine?

When is L coming home? I miss him.

Why can't I be happy that I at least passed my English assignment?

Why do I always leave assignments to the last minute?

Why do I always massively underestimate how long something is going to take to write?

Why did I think it was a good idea to buy those box of chocolates?

Would it be considered too naughty to have a glass of mulled wine tonight?

Why hasn't the birthday card I sent mum (in the US) arrived yet?

How did I manage to forget I had sent a card and then tell L I hadn't because I had forgotten?

When is my memory and sanity going to return?

How have I reached the frazzled state of not only not being able to cram any more information into my head, but am also unable to retrieve any information from my head too?

Why do I just want to eat today?

Is it too old fashioned of me to think the picture mum (US) used of T in a backless top showing off all her tattooes for a family Christmas card was very inappropriate?

Am I getting old for hoping L will grow a beard over Christmas leave? I do think he looks incredibly sexy when he has one. Oh, talking of inappropriate hehehe

Did I really laugh so much yesterday that water showered out of nose in the staff room yesterday? Yep and you looked pretty too.

Wednesday, 21 November 2012

Wednesday Wonderings

This list going to be short, my brain and imagination have taken a leave of absence. And I'm tired. Apparently blunt too. Meh.

Why do 'things' happen in 3s?

Was it fair to give us a phonics test on the first Monday of our return to uni knowing none of us got a weekend because they kept moving the goal post?

Who created PMT and why would you do that?

How many times am I going to have to tell myself 3 weeks Tash, 3 weeks Tash, to keep my sanity?

Will I ever stop wishing for more time so I can get on top of everything?

Will I ever feel like I am on top of everything?

Why don't I feel any better for having taken the night off last night?

How much more work is uni going to pile on before I spontaneously combust?

Why can I never remember the bus times for coming home from town and thus end up waiting over an hour for the next one?

Just Desserts

Its not often that I get to laugh at someone getting a good dose of their own medicine...that's not entirely true, I do but my empathy usually kicks in (much to the annoyance of the 'wicked Tash who lives in my head) and I just don't.

Mrs E, the head of the school C and I have just done our placement at, fancies him.

No wait it gets better.

The other afternoon when she was debriefing us on our teaching she was rubbing her foot down the back of his calf! Ha hahahahahahaha!

The uncomfortable look on his face as he told me was.....priceless! And yes, I did laugh my ass off unashamedly.

After weeks of a constant barrage of his sexual innuendos (don't worry I got used to it) it was hilarious to see him squirm when the shoe was on the other foot.

So I milked his discomfort and have threatened numerous times to pimp him out for good feedback.

Wednesday Wonderings

So, another week...another cold. Yup, a cold *sigh*.

Moving swiftly on, here are the things I've been mulling over in my more lucid and less snot ridden moments....

Why do they test things on rats - are we that genetically close that it's perceived as a viable study?

How did I manage to keep a straight face when Anne Boleyn was referred to as 'easy' by a 9 year old? She may well have been meaning in terms of needing to pick a Tudor to draw, but I maintain Henry VIII would have to agree considering he had her head cut off.

Is it too early to be tuning in to a radio station which only plays Christmas carols?

How excited am I to be going to a Christmas Fayre this weekend?

What makes a coma a coma and not just a really long sleep? Sleeping Beauty...coma or long sleep?

How is it possible to be this ready for Christmas break already? Roll on 14th December!

Am I the only PGCE student who is on placement with a class full of nose pickers?

Why won't children eat their veg but will eat anything that they unearth from their nose?

Does anything beat this conversation between two year four boys:
Boy one......'So did we win the First World War?'
Boy two.....'Well we're not speaking German are we?'

Cadbury Cream Eggs....yuck, why would you?

Why do women with prams think the world should give way to them?

Why can I not get warm?

Why am I so enthralled with anything magic and fantasy related?

Will I be able to stick to the promise that this course is the last stressful academic thing I am going to WILLINGLY put myself through?

To not understand the sense in people nodding sagely as they say 'it's always in the last place you look' when people are talking about something lost. Of course it is, what would be the point of continuing to look for something that you have already found?

Has anyone invented a time machine with a pause button yet? There really isn't enough hours in the day for me to achieve all that I need to.

If I open my wardrobe door will there be a world that I can escape to?

Why does tiredness = thin skin and limited tolerance?

Why are there some moments, particular events or a chain of events in your life that change everything thereafter?

Why is there never a chance to go back?

Why do I have this strange anticipatory feeling that something momentous is about to happen?

How do you boost confidence and self-esteem?

Is there a woman in this world that DOESN'T enjoy a bit of flirtatious attention?

Sarcasm is the Order of the Day

Have you ever had one of those days where you ask yourself, 'why did I get out of bed this morning?!'

Is it a full moon or something today, tonight even?

I've had the reverse Midus touch today I swear!

I tried (tried being the operative word there) to take my first class register this morning and what a success that wasn't. Nerves got the better of and it was a disaster. Think about all the things I could do wrong simply marking children as present in school and I did it. I could, and have, lectured myself about ticking all the boxes for the list of mistakes that they said I would make to reassure myself...but when do I ever listen to myself. That would be never

L came home today and where and what time I was meant to be picking him up changed a dozen times in the space of less than a hour...there is a reason in military training they are called f*ck around days and yeah, thanks I get it.

Not to list my mistakes but just to give you a picture of how much I wish I could have stayed in my bed, duvet over my head and let the world go by without me here are a few of my attempts at functioning....

Couldn't pour coffee without sharing it with the table. Apparently that IS a challenging thing to do.

Couldn't find anywhere to park to wait for L except in a small pond. In all fairness is was just a very large 2 inch deep puddle but it might as well have been a pond because there wasn't anywhere else for me to park, so L had to wade through it. Cheers Mother Nature, that's just peachy.

L couldn't eat his dinner with me without titivating around the kitchen wiping things, putting this there, moving it again...He spent so long doing this his dinner grew cold no less than 3 times and had to be reheated. Lucky for him I am the home cooking type of wife who got him some soup.

There were a few other things which went so fantastically well for me today, but I just can't be bothered to go in to any more detail - I'm off to bed with a wish and prayer that I don't wake tomorrow and it's groundhog day.

Two Things I Can't Believe

I had a hangover on Saturday from 3 beers. Yep, 3.

I fell asleep at 8:15pm on Saturday and didn't wake properly until 7:30am.

That's hardcore for you. Hardcore lameness - 3 beers! - and hardcore coma action in the sleep department.

Shocking behaviour.

Small Things

In lieu of yesterday's absent post on my mundane musings, here are a few things that I like....

Sitting in the house listening to the rain outside

Kicking up the autumn leaves as I walk to work with my breath creating puffs of clouds in the cold air

The sight of winter sunlight

The smell of spring

A hot bath with lots of bubbles to ease my aching shoulders and back

The prospect of the 90 or so tulip bulbs I planted blooming in spring

Jumping in puddles

Savouring the sensation of chocolate melting in my mouth

The smell and taste of mulled wine

Watching heartwarming films on the sofa with my mum in law as we share a bowl of popcorn

Unopened letters and parcels...how exciting!

The smell of fresh coffee and home made cookies

Getting the giggles when I shouldn't

The smell of a real Christmas tree

A uncharted kingdom of a new book

The smell of knowledge in a library

The look on L's face when he opens presents from me

Inhabiting that half world of semi-consciousness, are you awake or asleep or thousands of miles away somewhere in between?

The flip of my stomach when L returns after a period of absence

It's the small things in life that possibly so many others miss which make me smile.

Wednesday Wonderings

I meant to post this up yesterday but it was my first day at my school placement, therefore I was busy feeling anxious and then reading school policies.

Seriously, if anyone can help me with the last question I'd be forever grateful....

Who decides who is deserving of a 'happy-ever-after' and who isn't?

Will I ever understand myself?

This isn't a question but more of a statement - only a solider would insist not going away, and therefore being with their wife, for 3 months is spoiling her. Ha!

Will my story-telling muse ever return?

When it comes to Science will I ever be able to wear any expression other than a vacant one or one of abject panic at my total lack of comprehension?

Why can't things be easy?

Why if I can't understand something do I feel like a failure?

Why did C's (the other student I am going on my school placement with) comment that I was a luscious damsel make me recoil and slam up barriers? Actually, it made me feel physically ill and extremely uncomfortable, more the latter than anything else. Too close for comfort.

Have I officially lost the plot for academically and educationally taking a part Roald Dahl's The Twitts? Nah you lost the plot a long time ago Tasha!

Dare I be brave enough to think I may well have just grasped what my Science lecturer is trying to say/do in his lecture in terms of pedagogy and subject knowledge?....don't hold your breath. Or count chickens.

Did I really spend about 20 minutes playing with 'Scientific' toys today? Yep. I learnt nothing but I smiled a lot. Apparently the smiling bit doesn't happen loads so I CLEARLY need to play with toys more often. Obviously.

Why is there one person in every class that everyone rolls their eyes at when they speak/ask questions?

Why is there one person in every class that needs to practice their listening and turn taking and personal skills?

Why am I getting so many tension headaches lately?

Is being an obsessive person a bad thing?

How sneaky am I for eating two jars of chocolate spread - with just a spoon - (huh, might explain the headaches..) and then replacing them like I didn't? Am so lucky L doesn't read my blog because I always deny doing it. Ha!

How do you tell someone that you find their incessant complimenting uncomfortable and inappropriate? He's my paired partner for our school placement experience and if anyone has ANY suggestions or pointers as how I deal with this...I'm all ears.

Wednesday Wonderings

I missed a post or two, Wednesdays have come and gone what and I knew what I 'should' be doing but I can't multitask, so panicking was in and posting random thoughts was out.

In light of me trying out the new mantra 'just let it go' here is a select sample of what has passed through my brain matter...

Why would cheese be on this earth if it wasn't meant to be eaten?

Just how much space have I left in my brain to cram more information in before I reach saturation point and my hard drive starts smoking?

Who invented the punch bag? I need to kiss that person for helping me out with my anger and emotion issues. Oh and for keeping me sane.

Do people on a Postgrad Teaching Course really need to be forewarned of posting up inappropriate statuses and pictures re children/schools on their Facebook accounts?

After a nearly 3 weeks of being 'good' and 'organised' (doing my homework when it's set and not leaving it until the last minute) will I be able to continue this or will it all go to pot very soon?

Am I aware of the gruelling pace I'm setting for myself with trying to stay on top of Uni work, cram things into my already pretty full head and my usual responsibilities of exercising, cooking dinner and housework etc?

Is it normal to have moments of dread when I think about different aspects of this course like being assessed while I stand in front of class supposedly teaching?

Or even the fact I am going to have to be responsible for something as heavy and weighty as others' education?

Can I please get off this emotional roller coaster? It's exhausting swinging between calmly getting on with the work and the panic of the reality of QTS tests, cramming information in my head and juggling everything. Oh and PMT too to boot.

Why do academic writers make their text so dense and deliberately inaccessible to people like me?

Why does seeing children in their own world entertain me so much? They really do brighten my day.

Why is it no matter how organised I am or how well I think I am juggling the work load for uni, do I often get to class and realise there's something I missed?

If the course directors are aware and have said themselves that its impossible to do all the reading etc, why do they give us so much? Surely the common sense approach that would be less overwhelming and panic inducing - for people like me - would be to reduce the reading? Makes sense, no?

Why am I disengaging with the course all ready? Now that one I can answer - I'm looking for a pattern and trying to compartmentalise things, like what bit is them teaching us how to teach and what bit is subject knowledge for us. Maybe it's a case that all of it is subject knowledge for us???...

Why do men have to be such a-holes at times?

An ear infection in not one but BOTH ears, really?!

Who invented Advil? I could kiss them for their pain relieving magic.

Who would have thought writing your first lesson plan could be so hard?
